Jekka’s Journal: Dawn, Through New Eyes

Early twilight, the time when darkness gives way to the light. The air tingles with a kind of magic which courses through the body bringing an inner peace, a focus both mental and spiritual. Jekka chose the final watch for just that reason. The previous day’s search in the temple was not an entire loss; she and Quela had discovered a doorway in the lower chambers of the temple.

The stone, iron and wood of the door seemed to wrap and grow from each other in an ethereal dance. The door it self seemed almost alive. Quela reached out to it looking for a latch to use in opening it, as she touched the door it seemed to almost study her for a moment, as if it was unwilling to give up its secrets. From deep with in it a slight click sounded. Quela pushed on the door but it seemed too heavy to move. Jekka stepped to help her companion, as she to placed her hands on the door it seemed to almost strengthen as if it was studying her as well like a new acquaintance studies some one for the first time trying to since their motives and worthiness. The door again clanked from within as if a locking mechanism had found its long lost key. The stunning design work on the facing seemed almost to relax as the door gently opened without a sound.

The short hallway beyond possessed the same stone, iron and wood sculptures as the door that guarded them. Stunning in design the two companions could hardly take their gaze from them, however beautiful they were they paled in comparison to the sight beyond. At the end of the downward spiraling walkway opened a great cavern that gave way to the ancient city beneath Seafoam. The city of the Elves. Jekka stopped as the sight of the city seemed to grasp hold of her somewhere deep inside. It was quiet here, peaceful. A warm feeling flowed over the two companions as they stood in amazement at the sight before them. A since of importance was here, the strong pull to protect this place at all costs coursed through Jekka’s blood. She gripped Sparkspitter tightly; “whatever it takes” she whispered as she sheathed her sword and turned to leave. Quela looked puzzled at her companion as she moved to the door. “We must close and cover the door so no one else can follow us here” Quela stated. Jekka agreed with a nod and the pair left the city to sleep.

The clouds in the atmosphere awakened showing beautiful hues of red and orange is the predawn sky. Darkness drifted away as the sky shifted to blue. Time stood still. The birds stopped chirping and the wind stopped blowing as if all the realms suddenly held its breath in anticipation. The sun broke the horizon at that moment igniting life in everything it touched. The world was alive and vibrant once more. As Jekka sat upon her rock perch - from somewhere deep inside she offered a silent prayer to the One, a thanks for such beauty, or a thanks for the connection to it - she knew not. From somewhere deep within like the dawn itself an awakening had begun, the start of a new day, a new life. Jekka turned to wake her companions. Her watch was over, everyone was safe.
